On Ramen and Pop Tarts

There's a new-ish development called Mosaic District about fifteen miles away from my house in Northern Virginia. Even though it's relatively close, it remains a "destination" since I very rarely needanything that's not within five miles of me. There are two things, however, in Mosaic District that I occasionally want badly enough to make the drive: ramen and pop tarts. Let me explain. First, David and I discovered Jinya Ramen Bar sometime last year and have decided it's our favorite. Their broths boast such depth of flavor and there are vegetarian/vegan options for me! Plus, they'll give you a noodle refill for just $3! There's always a wait (it's that good) but there's plenty to do on the adjoining blocks to keep you busy until your table is ready. Two doors down from Jinya is a DC-area favorite, Ted's Bulletin. Part restaurant, part shake shop, they also serve house-made pop tarts in both traditional and seasonal flavors. I keep it simple with the strawberry sprinkle but David likes to mix it up. Blueberry cheesecake, anyone? Ramen and pop tarts. All grown up. I tell you all of this because now there is a third reason to travel the fifteen miles to Mosaic District: Park Story. Park Story is a semi-permanent boutique featuring womenswear, jewelry, handbags, accessories, home and paper goods--all by local and independent brands. And, you guessed it, we're popping up at Park Story on Saturday. It's our FINAL event of 2018! In addition to paying me a visit (especially if you haven't yet this season), Park Story is a special place. Meghan Evans, the owner and curator, is a lovely human being and a designer in her own right. The space is welcoming and beautiful, and I'll be serving up my own mulled wine! If you come late enough in the day, you may just be able to convince me to get ramen and pop tarts with you afterward!
