How to Wear: The Pants, Again

Playing with proportions in clothing can be tricky. The rule of the 1990s and early 2000s that says if you wear volume on top you must wear something fitted below (and vice versa) no longer applies as a rule even if it still sometimes occurs. Volume plays a much more important role in the trends of the moment, but knowing how voluminous pieces work together and work on you is not always evident.

For example, I would probably wear this look without the belt. I don't shy away from volume and because of my narrow upper body I can usually pull it off. If, like our model, however, you are curvier up top (it's not hard to be curvier than me), then you may feel more comfortable accentuating your waistline with a belt.

And if you can't wrap your head around the whole volume-on-bottom-and-top thing, then I've seen our pants worn plenty of times around town this summer with a simple tank and sandals. Here are a couple of examples.

You can shop our 100% cotton pants on our website at www.ThreadsbyNomad.com. The fabric is unbelievably soft and is handwoven and hand-printed in India. Upon purchase of the fabric, all of our creations are then handmade in our studio in Houston by our team of artisan refugees from around the world. In short, you will look good in and can feel good about your Threads by Nomad purchases!

The clothing and shoes that are not part of the Threads by Nomad collection can be found at The Hive (301 Cameron) and The Shoe Hive (127 S. Fairfax) in Alexandria, Virginia.
