We met Shahnaz through a mutual friend. Shahnaz and her family had been guests at the Welcome House of Hayes Barton Baptist Church after their arrival from Afghanistan. Kristen Muse, a minister at HBBC, developed a relationship with the family.
Rev. Muse learned that Shahnaz enjoyed sewing and wanted to make a contribution to her family's support. With the need to take care of children adjusting to a new home and the lack of a driver's license, Shahnaz expressed a desire to sew from home.
Through Rev. Muse, Nell was introduced to Shahnaz. Over seven months, Nell worked with Shahnaz on perfecting her skills, learning about quality control, and consistency in design and pattern. The Off Ramp was able to provide Shahnaz with a needed serger machine.
These stoles are the first creations by Shahnaz for Threads by Nomad.
