How to Make a Candle

Mom and I spent Labor Day weekend with my niece and nephew in South Carolina. We had loads of fun but one item on the agenda was especially joy-filled: making candles!

As we mentioned briefly in last week's email, we have procured candle-making kits from our favorite candle friends, Kin & Care. We wanted to test the product ourselves and made it a family affair.

Two days, lots of laughter and giggling, one silly video, more photos than I can count, and three homemade candles as gifts—we had a total blast!

The process is easy (as described below). And it turns out the one thing more gratifying than burning a new candle is burning a candle you made!

Watch our 1.5-minute video for some serious smiles, read the step-by-step process below, and shop our candle-making kits here!

We hope you have as much fun with it as we did. And if you make our candles, tag us in photos of them! We'd love to see!

First, affix the wicks to the center(ish) bottom of the gold tins.

Melt the soy wax in a water bath.

Once the wax is melted, pour in the entire bottle of essential oil and stir carefully.

Pour the wax into the gold tins while using the stirrers to hold the wicks in place. Once the wax has been poured, continue to hold the wicks in place a few more moments while it sets. Let the wax completely cool.

Snip the wicks to the desired height. Place the stickers on the top, bottom, and side of each candle. Next, wrap your candle if you're giving it away (ours will be Christmas gifts) or burn it if you're keeping it for yourself!

P.S. We had extra wax so we poured it into a mason jar and will use a mug warmer to "burn" it! It's basically a bonus candle!
